Magic Valley Bassmasters March 2009 Meeting

Scyler opened the meeting at 7:00 at Idaho Joe's.

Scyler went over the information that was discussed at the federation meeting; we are trying to find a way to get more for your money when you attend the Federation Banquet. Bruce Flesher would like to attempt a banquet that would be something like a Ducks Unlimited or a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Banquet. He hopes to get some of the major Pros to come in and make it an all day event. It will take a lot of work, but may be possible to pull off and might be good as a tool to increase Federation Membership. If anyone has suggestions or ideas, contact Scyler and he can take them to the next federation meeting. The youth championship for 2009 will be on June 20th and 21st at Coeur D Alene for more information contact John Lancaster. Conservation Projects were also discussed and Spring Creek on Brownlee was the topic, we are going to approach Idaho Power, B.O.R., and The Army Core of Engineers to see about Grant Money to build a wing dam for protection around the launch ramp. The outdoor sports show in Boise is March 5-8 at the Boise Fair Grounds. Scyler talked about Federation dues and how some of the $15 that we pay to national dues comes back to the state, but only if they are paid prior to Dec 15th, so in short that is why it is so important to get dues in early. The Ranger Boat that was purchased with Ranger Bucks through the TBF/FLW partnership has been sold, a BIG THANK YOU and Congratulations goes out to Shane & Julie Riddle for making that purchase!!!

We also have a outdoor sports show at the CSI Expo Center on May 1-3 we will need help to run a Kids Casting event on the May 2 & 3. Brad will also need as much help he can get setting up and tearing down his display. Rod Behr from the Mini-Cassia club said they would probably be willing to share the $200 fee for the space even though they will be on Anderson Ranch that weekend and we have extended the invitation to the Bass Hunter to join in and run some of the casting events. We will also be looking for anyone that would be willing to do a seminar on Fishing. I am working on a brochure to hand out at events to inform the public about our club and get more fisherman to join our club.

Our first tournament is coming up on March 21st and 22nd at Brownlee; Woodhead, the club voted on having ribs. Please bring a side dish or other pot luck item for the BBQ. This is a 2 day tournament with a combined weight, the entry fee for our club will be $45.00 per person. The extra $5.00 goes towards the 2nd day big fish. If you are a member of either one of the other clubs, you are able to pay there entry fee as well. Steve and Kevin will be pulling our trailer to Brownlee for us, a big thank you goes out to them. The Saturdays permit is IBM and Sundays permit is Mini Cassia, but we will be using Mini Cassias rules for both days. When you pay your entry fee and give us your (boaters) Insurance forms you will receive the 2009 MVBM rules.

Scyler received a phone call from the Buhl High School Counselor, she wanted to know if the clubs where doing a Scholarship this year? Scyler told her that we where and requested that the applications for the Scholarship would have a fishier or biology field. She put a deadline of April 1st for the students to turn in their applications. When Scyler receives them he will be getting together will all the presidents and they all will go over the applications and decide on the best application.

Our annual Dave Withers Big Bass Derby was a great time again this year, a little windy and cool for the boaters but we still had a good turn out. A big thank you for every one that donated to this great cause, it is so awesome that we can keep doing this in Dave's honor. The Scholarship Fund deposit was $840.00 this year, this fund will help out some one that is needing a little extra help with his schooling. Thanks again to everyone!!! The BBQ was good, a thank you goes out to everyone that brought something for it and to Kurt and Scyler for cooking the hamburgers and hot dogs. The 3 clubs split the total for the BBQ , each club paid $56.86 with the exception of our club; it was out turn to pay for the plaque. And the winner of the plaque goes to Dale Jarrell with a 19.5" bass, good job Dale......

Scyler will check into getting some weigh in sheets made for the Open, he will find out how much it will cost and see if it is worth the extra expense. Our OPEN will be here before we know it, so start trying to collect some raffle items. Scyler will call Jay and check into having the hog feed and bar down on the grass and we will set up the tents and tables like we did last year. It seems like every one enjoyed it more and we sold more raffle tickets. Kerry is going to make our posters again this year and I will start working on getting the address for the entry forms and getting it on the web page.

We have had 8 Sponsorships paid so far, they are SIF, H Vac, M.V. Towing, X-treme Motor Sports, Pickett Equip., Pioneer Carpet One, Window Welder and Norco. Scyler is still trying to contact some of the other sponsors to see is they still want to stay on the trailer. Hopefully he will able to get more information and see if we have any open spots on the trailer for the April meeting.

We voted in 3 new members to the club. Dale Taylor sponsored them and a few of the members know them, they are Larry & Lisa Burton and Glen Taylor. Welcome and good luck fishing.

Scyler is needing to purchase some new computer disks for the new computer, some of them will not work with Vista. The club voted on and passed to buy the programs that are needed.

Scyler closed the meeting at 8:00, thank you to everyone that showed up and see everyone at Brownlee...
